HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION
On October 9, 2024 at approximately 8:44pm, Freeport Police Officers responded to the 1000 block of S. Float Avenue for a shots fired incident. Officers located a 29-year-old male who sustained gun shot wounds. The male later died as a result of being shot.

On August 17, 2024 at approximately 5:56pm, Freeport Police Officers responded to a residence in the 1400 block of Mark Drive after an individual found a 26-year-old male unresponsive inside of the residence. Upon arrival, Officers located the male and discovered that he was deceased after suffering gunshot injuries.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY
On Sunday, August 4, 2024, a male wearing a blue jacket with no shirt and dark pants approached the front of the Freeport Police Department from the area of Cherry Avenue and Exchange Street. The male then threw a rock through one of the front glass doors to the PD. The male proceeded to walk back to the area where he came from.

THEFT INVESTIGATIONS
The Stephenson County Sheriff's Office is investigating several thefts that have occurred in the Rock City area. The thefts being investigated are as follows:
Stephenson County Sheriff's Office Incident number 24-4866
Between the middle of April 2024 and May 3, 2024, a compact John Deere tractor was stolen from a property in the 8500 block of E. Winneshiek Rd.
Stephenson County Sheriff's Office Incident number 24-6006
Between approximately 4:00 p.m. on May 30, 2024, and 7:00 a.m. on 5-31-24, a green 2006 Yamaha YFM 660 Grizzly ATV was stolen from a residence in the 200 block of E. Market St. in Rock City. The ATV has vertical snorkel style pipes for traversing deep water, a winch on the front, and a luggage rack on the back (see photograph with this post).
Stephenson County Sheriff 's Office Incident number 24-6475
Between June 7, 2024 and June 9, 2024, a 2020 Teske Manufacturing brand flatbed trailer was stolen from a residence in the 100 block of Jackson St. in Rock City. The trailer is 6' x 10', has gray rims, has a spare tire with a white rim attached to the side of the trailer, a wood deck, and a 4 foot tall wired ramp on the rear.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY INVESTIGATION
On Monday, May 20, 2024, the Freeport Police Department responded to a residence in the 1200 block of W. Staver Street regarding an individual who attempted to gain entry into a residence and vehicles. During the course of the investigation, Officers were able to obtain surveillance video that captured a person of interest.

UTV THEFT INVESTIGATION - CANCEL RECOVERED
UPDATE 04-17-2024 UTV HAS BEEN RECOVERED AND THE INVESTIGATION IS ONGOING.
The Stephenson County Sheriff's Office is attempting to locate a stolen 2020 black and orange Can-Am Maverick XRC Turbo UTV. The depicted UTV was stolen from the 2300 block of Illinois Route 26 North in Freeport, Illinois sometime between 04-15-2024 at approximately 9:00 P.M. to 04-16-2024 at approximately 7:30 A.M.

ROAD SIGN THEFTS - RURAL STEPHENSON COUNTY
Several Townships within rural areas of Stephenson County have been experiencing thefts of road signs. In some of these cases, power tools are being used to remove portions of the metal posts along with the signs. A significant number of road sign thefts have occurred in Buckeye and Oneco Townships; however, other Townships within Stephenson County have experienced these thefts as well.

BURGLARY INVESTIGATION
On Tuesday, July 11th, 2023, the Freeport Police Department responded to the Freeport High School in reference to a burglary investigation. Upon arrival, Officers investigated a burglary to the shed by the Freeport Boys Baseball team dugout. It was believed this burglary occurred within the past week. A door to the shed had been forced open and baseball equipment and property were stolen.

POLICE IMPERSONATOR
The Stephenson County Sheriff's Office is seeking information about a police impersonator who stopped a female motorist in the area of S. Baileyville Rd. and E. German Valley Rd. in rural Baileyville Illinois on Tuesday May 30th, 2023 at approximately 6:20 a.m.
The female motorist was told that she was being stopped for "almost speeding" as well as for a registration light infraction, despite the fact that the daylight conditions at the time of the stop would have made it impossible to observe the lighting infraction. During the course of the stop, the suspect did ask for the female motorists driver's license and insurance information, and returned both documents after briefly reviewing them at the driver's window.
The following is a description of the suspect and suspect vehicle involved in the stop that was reported to the Stephenson County Sheriff's Office:
SUSPECT:
White Male, 30-40 years old, heavy-set, 5'10" - 6' tall, short dark hair, thick dark color mustache, and bushy eyebrows. The suspect was wearing a tan button up shirt with dark pants, a star-shaped badge and a square name plate.
SUSPECT VEHICLE:
White SUV (unknown make/model) with a yellow stripe on the side, a black brush guard mounted on the front of the vehicle, and a light bar mounted on the top in a manner in which it extended past both vehicle front doors. The light bar was not activated at the time of the stop; however, red/blue lights mounted on the front grill of the suspect vehicle were activated.

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE / ATTEMPT IDENTITY THEFT
On Saturday April 29th, 2023, between approximately 12:15pm and 12:50pm, an unknown suspect(s) broke the rear passenger window of a vehicle that was parked within Lake Le-Aqua-Na State Park in rural Lena. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole a wallet containing bank cards and personal identification documents. Shortly after discovering the vehicle burglary, the victim received bank notifications regarding attempted debit card purchases at the Dollar General store in Lena.
Follow-up investigation at the Dollar General store located at 106 E. Provost Street in Lena revealed that on 4-29-23 at approximately 12:50pm, the depicted Black male subject wearing a white coat purchased gift cards with a bank card that was stolen from the victim's vehicle. After that purchase was completed, the depicted subject wearing all black entered the store and purchased a gift card and a food item with a bank card that was stolen from the victim's vehicle.
No suspect vehicle information is available at this time; however, it is believed that the suspects are also involved in similar incidences which occurred on April 29th, 2023, in Jo Daviess County Illinois and Dubuque Iowa.
